Lowlight was founded in 2016 by Paul Homer, an extensively skilful and versatile venue professional with more than 15 years’ experience running cinemas and art venues at a senior level.  Paul is an experienced film programmer and curator of diverse venues, developing audiences throughout multiple roles.  Paul has operated in complex multi-channel leisure environments with responsibility for influencing and driving cultural change.  Paul's skills include setting strategy, building teams and developing organisations.

Paul started his career at the Birmingham International Film & TV festival, running the short film competition and marketing the festival..  After a spell running cinemas for Picturehouses in the Midlands and London he was appointed  CEO of the Phoenix Cinema Trust in East Finchley, instigating organisational change, restoring the cinema with a major capital HLF-supported project and significantly increasing income through a revitalised programming and marketing strategy.  Paul then opened the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, a major new art space on the south coast.  Cinema called Paul back in the shape of Curzon where he developed new partner sites whilst acting as a regional manager for existing venues.  After leaving Curzon Paul wanted to lend his experience to help other venues and organisation excel and so Lowlight was created.
